You're probably wondering who's behind this and why is it called Piujulia Uummatnnit. First of all thanks for stopping by my Name is Rachel Seepola Michael, I am the Granddaughter of Simonie and Martha Michael, born and raised in Niaqunnguuq the OG village of Iqaluit, Nunavut. Piujulia Uummatnniit is spelled in Inuktitut. The imagery of I hope this brand name gives is of a wise elder sharing holding their hands and pointing at the heart and saying to you the meaning of this business name means "To Get
To The Place of True Beauty Comes From Within Your Heart".

Piujulia is also names after my Grandmother Martha Michael cousin Piujulia Pfifer, with the permission of the family, late Piujulia's family has given their blessing to use her name for this business. Piujulia, who whenever she came to visit my grandmother's place, Piujulia would lit up the house with the warmth of her smile and her gentle embrace. Her presence brought a calming peace that will fill the home with a calming medatative energy. As soon as Piujulia would walk through the doors my grandmother's face would light up with happiness and imense joy and I could hear her soft voice in my memory as she would  start off each meal with a loud and proud "Hiiaayyiiii!" a statement of gratitude and appreciation for the food and company anytime her favourite people brought her food to share.

I grew up around a strong village that helped raised me to be the person I am today, and only becasue of the love and generosity of my community am I here today. So this Social Enterprise is my way of giving back to our community and youth. More and more our Nunavut Inuit struggle to make ends meet. I dedicated Piujulia Uummatinniit as a social enterprise platform for reinvesting profits into community based youth programs focused on eliminating child and youth poverty in Iqaluit and hopefully one day across the whole Territory of Nunavut.

From being Homeless at the age of 11 and trudging through the navigation of systems within the foster care system in Iqaluit, I honestly do not think I would still be here on earth if it wasn't for programs and supportive people like Iqalummiut who helped feed, house/shelter and clothe me when my family struggled with poverty and addictions. Thankful for all the families and individuals who watched over me and held up and lit the candle at the end of the dark tunnels I fell down over the years. Thank you for staying alive even when the darkness and silence and feel deafening at times.
